While the Chapman family craved privacy and continue to do so , Kevin Wells needing a public outlet to express his pain and anger, commenced writing about Holly, his emotions, the impact on the whole family and case itself, before it had gone to trial, with all the incumbent difficulties of ensuring the trial was not jeopardised.
This means that the reader is presented with some very raw emotions. He represents everything as he experienced it, so that grief and intense anger are mixed with moments of humour. If you are able to obtain the ten year anniversary edition. I would recommend it. I believe that the account of Holly's disappearance and the subsequent investigation and trial are basically the same, if not identical in both, but the final chapters show just how resilient human beings are; over time, Kevin's anger has subsided and he had been able to channel his grief into extremely useful charitable works to help other bereaved families.
It is also good to see that the Wells are still together and their son, Oliver works with Kevin in the family business. I congratulate them and wish them well. Jun 18, Kathleen Anne Pearson rated it it was amazing. What an amazing book. Everyone remembers these two little girls and the enormous hunt there was for their murderer but to hear the REAL story from the parent of Holly Wells is truly heartbreaking.
Becoming a baby again
The book is unputdownable although the ending was already known but to find out the backstory is really interesting. I was in turn heartbroken, horrified and disgusted by the totally unhuman, callous way the families were not kept informed of developments and my already low opinion of the police has fallen even lower. As a mother, I cannot begin to imagine what the families were going through when the girls went missing and could not be found but were then found in such dreadful circumstances.
That horror is unimaginable. It is very hard reading at times but absolutely riveting. Aug 01, kellie rated it it was amazing. I'm glad this booked focuses on Holly, Jessica and family and not so much on the monsters that took her away, I also feel Kevin has shown respect for Jessica family in their wishes to remain out of the public eye. RIP little ladies x Jun 07, Nic Dixie rated it liked it. I have always wanted to know more about what happened to Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, I was only a child myself when the heinous crime was committed.
I found it repetitive, I sadly did not learn more about the crime than I wanted to Kev I have always wanted to know more about what happened to Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, I was only a child myself when the heinous crime was committed. Kevin Wells is an ordinary man that had an extraordinary, tragic life event. His family and the Chapmans will always remain in my heart for what they went through. Jan 26, sharon hamilton rated it it was amazing. Filling in the gaps The first book was amazing n took you on the journey from time girls missing to time bodies were found.
This book fills in gaps between everything. I feel that the families really suffered not only the loss of a daughter but in how evidence was with held then dropped on them surely they had suffered a loss of a child in the most horrendous way, no dignity or care in criminal justice but received within their FLO's.
Absolutely Amazing Read. Aug 08, Leanne Keenoo rated it really liked it. Sad read from the father of Holly Wells who was murdered aged 10 with her friend Jessica Chapman. I remember it being in the news and hoping that the girls would be found alive and well. I was on holiday with my own children at the time they were found murdered.

I really felt for them and the awful experience they went through. However, the book was let down by the repetition of a few points and an overlong ending more like final third. I didn't feel the "one year on" or "ten years on" sections really added anything. Although it was nice to see what the family had been up to si A good read, but the ending dragged.

Although it was nice to see what the family had been up to since, a few sentences would have sufficed rather than the chapter on setting up the cleaning business and his experience running the London marathon. I liked it overall, but it could have done with some professional editing. Jan 04, June Hastings rated it liked it. Sorrow and emphaty Whilst I am feeling complete devastation and Sorrow for the death of beautiful little girls, I cannot but feel it all should be kept private without the Book published, there is a certain uneasiness about the exploitation of the story itself, and again sorry if my opinion is harsh but I had to abandon the book midway, as way too much information was delivered most especially for young Oliver.
Oct 15, Sara rated it really liked it Shelves: kindle. While the writing and style is far from professional it really takes you inside the mind of the feelings and utter frustration when the worse happens. The parts about mediums helping made me a bit uncomfortable as I believe they prey on grieving, vulnerable people. Also I did keep wondering what the other family who chose not to speak out thought about this outpouring of honesty.

This book was gripping , sad beyond belief and pain so intense that it made you want to hug your children and never let them go.
Brilliantly written by the Father himself. Nov 18, Jen rated it it was amazing. This a harrowing heart-wrenching read. I bought it simply to contribute to help the author, even if I could never find the courage to read but read I did. Holly's story is told with courage and dignity by her father and I was shocked by what I read of the experience the family suffered through our complex legal system. I would recommend this book but understand it is not for everyone.
Readers also enjoyed. About Kevin Wells. This was a very difficult read but a very well written and honest account by one of the fathers of the girls, Kevin Wells. Although extremely heartbreaking, it was a most insightful account of their experience with the community, the police, police procedures, the media, the justice system and their own experience as a family unit, definitely a very thought provoking read, fair play to Kevin Wells for having the courage to write it and share his experience.

The horrendus crime committed against these two beautiful girls is described in suprising detail by Holly Wells' father, which must have taken such courage to do.
It highlites the evilness of Ian Huntleys crime and allows a rare view inside the workings of families who are victims of such crimes, how they cope, the impact of the liaison officer and police and also how they rebuild their lives.
